Advent calendar!!

Ok, so not strictly food-based, but food goes in it, yeah? (and I kinda just wanted to post about it)

I made an advent calendar!!! I used matchboxes from Lidl because the “drawers” are nice and big and have room for lots of sweeties 🙂 (By the way, I now have 5,200 matches to use up, so if anyone has any bright ideas…) I decorated them with cut up gift bags from Home Bargains (important element because v.cheap, and much easier than doing fiddly drawings). I made the pull-ribbons by piercing a hole through each box front and tying the ends together (painful and difficult). I sellotaped all the boxes together (don’t be tempted to use glue, it goes everywhere and might end up sticking the “drawers” inside. Not good. And then covered it all in Christmassy paper. And THEN filled it with lots of sweeties. Ho ho ho yum.

And the little candle peeking out the back of the picture is an advent candle- I wanted one, they cost a fortune, and let’s face it they’re only going to be melted!! So I got a 25p value one from Wilkinsons and painted it myself. Bit wonky… character, innit. Yes, let’s say that. Don’t keep the tinsel on when it’s alight. That’s just stupid.

Have been informed today that I am making the canapes and puds for Christmas at home. Ohhhh yessssssss.
