Cherry and sultana scones

These scones are lovely for breakfast, a morning snack, proper “tea”, anytime 🙂 Not traditional scones, but plonk butter and jam on them and they’re lovely.

(they are a lot less yellow in real life, blame my terrible camera laziness 🙂 )


Cherry and sultana scones

(Makes 8, total cost £1.20, cost per scone 15p)

Adapted from here (a fabby way for me to practise French as it’s in both languages 🙂 )


230g self raising flour

pinch baking powder

6 tbsp butter (I will weigh this next time and update, because I think it’s easier to measure weight)

20g caster sugar

50g glace cherries, quartered

40g sultanas

1 egg, beaten

pinch of salt

15-30ml milk, plus extra to glaze


Rub the flour and butter together to make a breadcrumby mixture.

Stir in the sugar, salt, cherries and sultanas.

Mix in the egg and enough milk to make a stiff dough.

Roll/press out on a floured surface and cut 8 circles out with a cutter.

Place on a baking tray and brush with milk.

Bake 10-15 minutes at 220c until golden brown.

Serve warm with butter and cream… yum!
